SURPRISE for Madelyn! Feb 4th!!!

Peter and I are so overwhelmed and thankful for this community we live in.  Check this out:

A 6 year old girl in our community named Madelyn Kuhnlein has been battling cancer for two years.  On Friday February 1st she has her last chemo treatment.  Madelyn and her sister Sophia bring the police officers and fire fighters cookies at Christmas time and needless to say, they have earned a spot in our hearts.  I offered Madelyn a ride in the police car to celebrate her last chemo treatment. After talking with some of my staff, we decided to have a parade for Madelyn to make it a very special celebration in honor of her beating her cancer.

If your business has a vehicle you would like to join the parade, or if you want to participate in some way, please let me know.  We got our parade permit on Monday night and have a short period of time to get things lined up.  The parade is at 3:45 on Monday the 4th of February.  We would like to stage vehicles in the north end of the Safeway parking lot and parade north on Commercial to 5th St. and then one block over to Madelyn’s house.   Please let me know if you can help.  You can reach me by email at bonnieb@cityofanacortes.orgor by phone at 293-4684.  Thank you for your consideration.

This message was sent to the Chamber of Commerce, the city and the entire school district.  The newspaper has already called us and our friend Jim Thompson, has offered to video tape the event.  I am not quite sure what to say... but I have been crying on and off since yesterday.  I have said it over and over the last two years, but I will say it again.  I love our town.

The surprise will begin with friends and family being at Mt Erie Elementary at 3:30pm when she walks out of school on Monday Feb 4th.  We will be there with banners and balloons.  Then she and Sophia will get in the police car.  And then we will all follow along in the parade.

Hope to see you all at the parade on Feb 4th ... and remember it is a SURPRISE for both Madelyn and Sophia.

Love to you all...Lisa

  1. Oooh, I wish we lived closer because we would be there with bells on (or clanging our cow bell, anyway!) We are so happy this ordeal is finally coming to an end, and can think of no better way to celebrate!! Enjoy and know you are always in our hearts. Love, love, love...Kathy
